Little Bear

At Tyke's 6 month checkup last Friday (7/26/13) Dr. Fullmer told us he saw no signs of teeth anytime soon for our little guy.  We're starting to think otherwise.  Tyke has been a grumpy little bear this past week.  Every night he would just cry and scream for hours until the point of exhaustion, for both of us (Chad was working two jobs, thankfully that has ended!).  He would seriously cry from 6 pm-12:30 am practically every night, and I cried a few times too.  We have noticed that during the day Tykers has been chewing on his thumb, his arm, his toes, his binky and his toys really hard and all on the right side of his mouth.  He has also been tugging at his right ear.  At first I wondered if he maybe had an ear infection or something going on, but the tugging started 2 days after the doctors appointment and the doc had said his ears looked great.  So we just figured he had found his ears and was having fun playing with them, except it's always the right ear.  The temper tantrums though were enough to drive me to tears, and they did.  Chad and I talked about all that had been going on this past week and got to wondering if maybe our little guy is feeling pain from his unseen teeth.

Last night I was hesitant but I gave Tyke a super small dose of Tylenol (he got a quarter dose of it) to see if maybe that would help him to have a better night.  We fed him a yummy dinner of rice cereal, carrots and milk and then while Chad went to get the bath water ready I gave Tyke the Tylenol.  I HATE giving our little guy medicine if he doesn't really need it.  I hate not knowing if he's really in pain or not.  With shots we know, otherwise it's all a guessing game.  Tylenol scares me with Tyke.  I have never given him a full dose, always just a half dose of what he can have based on his age and weight, and it puts him right to sleep, for hours.  I can't imagine what a full dose would do to him.  I really should remember to talk to Dr. Fullmer about this and see if it's normal.  I was super hesitant about doping him up but I'm glad I did.  After his fun bath time (he soaks us and the bathroom floor every night) little guy passed out.  He cried for a couple of minutes and then he was snoozing for the night.  Tyke FINALLY (for this week) slept the entire night.  We were up at 5 am and then 7 am and he was happy as can be for the entire day.

The way he has acted this past week has us really thinking that teeth are on their way!  It makes me sad because that means he's growing up but it makes me happy because, well, that means he's growing up! We can't wait to see his goofy toothy grin when those baby teeth finally decide to come in.  Here's to hoping that the whole teething process will be easy for the Tyke man, and us!
