Clayson Camp Out 2013

We had our 3rd annual Clayson family reunion camp out over the weekend.  This year marked three years since starting up this tradition.  The first year had a great turn out and we had so much fun.  Last year Chad and I only rode up to visit for one day because I was so sick with the pregnancy and he was working lots of hours.  This year we were packed and ready to go!  It was held about a month later than usual but with every one's busy schedules it worked out best to meet in August.  We didn't have near the turn out as usual but we enjoyed each other's company none the less.

We camped at Jones' Ranch up Payson canyon.  It's nothing special, just a wide open mostly flat camp area.  There were plenty of campers up the canyon because it was the opening of the bow hunt.  We weren't sure if we'd get our usual spot, but we lucked out and did.  Chad, Tyke and I headed up the canyon around 5 p.m. Friday after I got off work.  We got things set up, the baby happy, and then grabbed our camp chairs and headed to the huge gathering of family.  We had a great time visiting with those that we only see once or twice a year.  Tyke was the star of the show with all of his little tricks and goofy behavior.  He had a great time with his cousins and even made new friends with some he hasn't really been around much.

We took turns cooking the meals over the weekend.  Friday night we all brought our own hamburgers and hot dogs and then did potluck with everything else.  We got to enjoy yummy corn on the cob, fruit, Grandma C's yummy potato salad and chips with dip.  We finished off the night with sitting around the camp fire roasting marshmallows.

Tyke got smothered with loves from his Grandma's, Aunts, Uncle Chris and all of the little kids.  His second cousin MaKaylee was obsessed with him and spent a lot of time at our camp trailer checking on "bebe Tyke" (pronounced in a southern accent haha).  Her mom told us that every time they visit Nephi she asks about "bebe Tyke" and uses a southern drawl that she has no clue where it came from.  It's pretty cute!  Tyke also got to meet up with MaKaylee's little brother Jeter.  Jeter is about 7 months older than Tyke and they sure liked staring at each other and smiling.

Saturday we started the day off with mountain man breakfast courtesy of our chefs Chad and Chris.  It was so good!  Not long after cleaning up a huge black cloud parked right over camp and we got to enjoy a major thunder/lightning/rain storm.  Tyke was so confused and excited about the down pour.  It rained long and hard and the lightning and thunder were so close that a couple of times it made us jumped.  We had our awning set up so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the show.  It's always amazing to get caught in a thundering rainstorm in the mountains!  After it stopped raining we decided we were ready for some food.  For lunch we grilled some chicken sausages stuffed with spinach, artichokes and cheese.  Afterwards Chad loaded up and went looking for firewood to bring home with us, and Tyke and I took a small nap.  When we woke up we headed outside and enjoyed playing mafia with the rest of the camp crowd.  Our family was also in charge of dinner that night.  As soon as Chad made it back we got things started.  For dinner we had Cafe Rio style barbecue pork salads and burritos.  There was also a ton of desserts that night, cakes and pies, because of birthdays we were celebrating.

On a side note, we think Tyke may have had his first little allergic reaction to food.  He ate an apply, blueberry and spinach food pouch for lunch and dinner.  He ate half of the pouch for lunch and his little cheeks turned red.  They looked sun burned but also had a red spotted rash.  I thought nothing of it and put more sunscreen on.  Later that night for dinner he finished off the rest of his food pouch and his faded red cheeks turned bright red again and the rash came back but this time moved under his chin too.  We slowly put two and two together that this could be a food allergy.  He's had plenty of apple foods, they seem to be mixed into everything, so we're narrowing it down to either the blueberries or the spinach, both were a first for our little guy.

We sat around the camp fire for a while and then decided to call it a night.  Tyke was a little fussy so we took him in to get ready for bed.  We ran a small bath for him.  The tub in our trailer is so small it was just his size.  We gave Tyke a plastic cup to play with and the boy went crazy!  He was kicking and splashing and having a good time.  He kept grabbing the cup, filling it up with water and then dumping it out and getting excited.  It was so cute and I think it was the most fun he's had at bath time.  He actually had a little freedom from mom and dad.  After getting him all soaped up we showered him off, that didn't go over too well.  Poor little guy was shivering, I think with fright, by the time we were done.

Sunday morning we had a breakfast of biscuits and gravy, sausage and bacon, and eggs and hash browns.  After cleaning that up we all got busy cleaning up camp and headed home.  Tyke was a happy little camper and enjoyed all of the attention he got.  He slept a lot, which was nice.  He took some really good naps while in the mountains, better than he does at home.  And he slept good at night too!  We averaged getting up twice a night, still not great but better than the usual.  It was a great weekend that's for sure!  The Clayson family is awesome and I'm so glad we got to spend some good quality time with them!

(This video seems a little long and boring, but it shows how much fun our little guy had camping.  He loves his cousins!)
