I can't believe another month has passed by already! The Tyke man is now 7 months old today! He just keeps getting more and more fun and we love him so very much! Our little guy is developing the cutest personality ever. He's a character that's for sure. Aunt Stephanie even made the comment he was a little smart alec, and he is! He is no dummy, he knows what he's doing whether it's good or bad, funny or not, and he just grins at us like, "what are you going to do about it?!" Nothing, that's what! We love it, and we love him!
Tyke is such a happy boy! He giggles a lot now. He used to hold his giggles in but now he lets them out and it makes our day. He loves being tipped upside down (Aunt Tiffy discovered this) and just laughs and laughs. It's adorable. He also thinks it's super funny if you whisper his name. From a sitting position he folds flat with laughter. The kid is flexible!
With the happy boy also comes the grump butt. This kid can throw a fit like no other! He gets so ornery when he's sleepy, who doesn't, but he seriously screams and cries to the point where he can't catch his breath and he's covered in tears, snot and slobber. It's sad but so cute. He also throws these fits when he just wants attention or to be held. The more you ignore him (sounds mean, but we don't want a spoiled boy) the louder he gets until he finally breaks out the broken hearted cry and we finally give in. As soon as we pick him up he turns off the tears and smiles. It's like flipping a switch. He's such a little stinker and he knows it!
Tyke is such a curious little one. He is so snoopy and has to look, grab, and taste everything in sight. He watches and studies our every move. He loves our cell phones. When I'm feeding him, if I happen to pull my phone out to look at stuff he immediately stops, turns and twists to see and then tries to grab it. He can't control himself when it comes to phones. And he's always hitting buttons and bringing up pages we have no clue where they come from. Genius child, I tell ya!
Tyke dislikes being layed on his back now. He prefers to be sitting up so he can check everything out. His balance has gotten so good this last month. We'd say he has sitting 99.9% mastered! He still gets wobbly now and then but I blame it on all of the energy he has. He can't sit still for nothing, his little legs are always on the go! It scares him, and us, when he tips over backwards. He usually cries. When he tips over forward though he's got it mastered and makes it look graceful, like diving into water. Tyke, when sitting, can fold right in half and eat his toes. He also can stretch forward really far if there's something interesting enough in front of him that he wants.
We've stood Tyke up to the couch a few times but he's not quite ready for that. Again, those little legs can't stop long enough for him to hold on.
Tyke is starting to be a little copy cat! If his daddy sticks his tongue out at him, he sticks his out too. If you pat your mouth while making noises he does too. It's so cute how he twists his little wrists to make noises. Just last night I was moving my finger over my lips really fast to make noises. He studied me for a few minutes and moved that back of his hand over his mouth to make the same noise! He's such good entertainment for us!
Tyke is slowly developing the dropping the toys game. I don't think he's totally caught on yet but he will drop things two or three times before moving on to something else. When we say "uh oh" he just grins and watches us close as we bend over to pick the toy back up.
Tyke is getting so big! I swear every morning he looks like he's grown another inch. He fills his car seat out really well now. We are currently on the hunt for a big boy car seat but have yet to find anything we really like. Tyke is still in 6-9 month clothes. The 6 month sizes are starting to get zoned out though. Tyke wears size 2 diapers still. (On that note, for my baby shower we got a TON of diapers, mostly because we didn't know the gender of Baby Long, but also because we played a game where if you brought a package of diapers you were entered into a drawing. BEST IDEA EVER! Yesterday Chad and I bought our first package of diapers! We still have plenty, of bigger sizes, we just ran out of 2's!) Speaking of diapers, when changing Tyke he has started to get grabby and helpful. He grabs at himself and while I'm trying to get him to stop so I can get things cleaned up he'll grab the messy diaper and move it. He's too much help!
Tyke is loving baby food! He will eat pretty much anything, other than green beans, without gagging. He loves his sippy cup, mostly for a chew toy though, I think. He thinks the little baby food pouches are so cool and eats from them really well. He drinks from cups and water bottles really good with little to no spills. The last week or so he has been refusing to eat rice cereal. We ran out and haven't bought anymore because of it. We haven't tried a whole lot of dairy foods with him. He has had tastes of ice cream and sour cream, yum! We mostly forget to share with him. I've bought him some baby food yogurt but we haven't tried it yet. Tyke has tried a taste or two of mashed potatoes. He's really unsure of them. The first few tries he gagged really bad but now he just pulls a face and it takes him forever to swallow them. I think the texture puzzles him so he moves them around in his mouth until he gets tired. Silly boy! And with all of that food I should also note that I'm lucky enough to still be nursing our little man.
Tyke is still loving tub time and splashes like crazy. Our boy loves the water! He goes absolutely nuts in the bath tub. We still don't trust him enough to let him sit in the water. He's too curious and bends over to check out the drain. We let him be curious for a few seconds and then lay him right down. As soon as his back hits the water his legs start going. By the time we're done bathing him we're soaked, the floor is soaked and so are the cupboards and counters. This kid can kick and he knows how to splash us good. I'm serious when I say he has a rhythm and a plan with his kicking legs. The other night as he raised his legs to splash me I told him "NO!" He stopped, with his legs straight up in the air, smiled at me and then dropped them with such force my entire front side got wet. He just giggles when he does this. He knows what he's doing! Smart little guy!
Chad and I are thinking that our little trouble maker is going to be crawling really soon, like in the next couple of weeks. Just this past week he has started getting up on his knees. He hasn't quite got it mastered. He wiggles and squirms so much to get into position that it looks like he's doing push ups. He moves across the floor or the bed this way too, but only in reverse. It's going to be an adventure when he's really mobile! Time to baby-proof the house!
Tyke still isn't sleeping through the night, and in fact, has gotten worse. He wakes up so much now and not very quietly either. He wakes up screaming his head off. He sounds like he's in pain and sometimes he's uncontrollable. It usually takes a good 5 minutes to get him to calm down enough that we can feed him or change his bum, and then it takes FOREVER to get him back to sleep. Our spoiled little Roni will usually only go back to sleep if we put him in bed with us, which I swore we would never do! I usually fall asleep too without moving him back to his bed. I love the cuddles but it bugs me to be letting this habit form. This past week we've resorted to giving Tyke a little Tylenol (only twice) because we're thinking that teeth are on their way. The way he acts, chewing on things and tugging his ear, and now the "owie" cries at night has us almost convinced. We can even feel a spot on his right upper side but it doesn't look like anything more than a bump and I don't know what I'm looking for anyway.
We love Tyke so much! He brings so much happiness into our lives. He's such a funny little guy and we're in love with him and his adorable personality. Happy 7 months RoniMan!!!
