Poison Control....Again!

Well we had to call poison control, again, thanks to Luke.  The kid is T-R-O-U-B-L-E!  We have been working on an addition to the shop in the back yard.  We have the roof up and Chad was on it last night sealing the gap between the shop and the new addition with roof cement.  I was in the house on the couch not feeling too well.  The boys were in the backyard playing, or so we thought.  It turns out that as Chad would empty a can of this black tar-like substance he was throwing it on the ground below and Luke was being his curious little self.  Once Chad got off the roof and found the Lu covered in this yucky, sticky stuff, he brought him in the house and we immediately got busy trying to clean it off.  It was all over his hands, an elbow, and his entire face!  We fought hard with an angry Lu to get his face and hands cleaned up.  This stuff was seriously like tar and wouldn't come off, it just moved around and smeared even more.  After getting him 95% cleaned up Chad joked and said, "he didn't eat it did he?"  I looked into Luke's mouth, he was still screaming and kicking at us, and sure enough!  The roof of his mouth was caked in the roof cement!  My stomach dropped.  I grabbed a clean wash cloth and ran it under hot water and then worked my hardest to clean Luke's mouth out.  He was gagging and screaming and kicking and crying the entire time.  I got quite a bit of the cement out of his mouth but not all of it.  We gave Luke a break from this torture and I ran outside to grab the can of roof cement to read the label.  It's super bad if it gets into the eyes, and can be fatal if swallowed!  I was near tears now and called poison control to see what they said.  They instructed us to give Luke lots of fluids and to make him eat more than normal.  They warned us that there would probably be vomiting involved and that that was OK.  They told us to watch for signs of irritation, etc and that they would check back with us in an hour with a better game plan.  We forced Luke to eat and drink more than he wanted to and luckily there was no puking involved.  Luke acted completely fine and the only skin irritation he had was on one cheek where I had scrubbed too hard and broke the skin.  Poison control called back almost two hours later and after a short discussion we were told that Luke was going to be fine and we had nothing to worry about.  What a relief!  We gave Luke a bath and were able to get the rest of the roof cement off of him (at this point it was more just a stain on him than actual goo) and I was able to brush the rest of the tar out of his mouth.  What a kid!  There's a reason he's call the Trouba-Lu!
