First 5K
We did our first 5K today! It was a fundraiser 5K for John Sutherland, a long time family friend of the Kay family. He is battling cancer again. Some great ladies in Mona put on a big 5K fundraiser and I think it's safe to say it was a success. The boys (and me) weren't too excited about getting up so early but once we got up and going we had a good time. We were out at the Mona city park by 6:30 a.m. The race started at 7 a.m. Tyke wanted to run with all of the other runners. We had planned on just walking so I ran with him and had the hardest time keeping up (I am so out of shape!). Luckily he kept stopping at the sewer manhole lids to inform me that's where the Ninja Turtles live otherwise he would have left me in his dust. By the way, my legs are super sore tonight from running...thanks Tyke! Tyke ran a good portion of the race. He kept informing me and everyone else about how fast he was! And then he just stopped and walked up to me and told me he was tired and needed to be carried. We found Daddy and Louie (who were quite a ways behind us) and walked the rest of the 5K, taking turns to pack Tyke. Luke was calm as can be in his stroller and enjoyed the ride, even though I'm sure he was freezing! It was a cold morning for the end of May and we got sprinkled on a couple of times during our walk. We crossed the finish line at 48 minutes! I was pretty proud of us for doing our first 5K and not being the last ones through! After the 5K everyone hung out at the park. There was a bake sale, breakfast and raffle. The kids had fun playing on the playground for a while. We hung out for an hour or so and then called it quits. Poor Luke's hands were ice cold no matter how hard we tried to keep him warm. All in all I'd say it was a great morning and we were so glad we were able to be there and support the Sutherland crew! They're a great family and we hope and pray that John can beat cancer again!
