We are SO sick of being sick at this house! I'm not sure how I've been so lucky not to catch this nasty cold circulating in our home. I've had a slight sore throat and sometimes have a stuffy nose but I've been lucky to keep this cold at bay for the most part.
Chad is going on three weeks now battling this illness. His voice is so hoarse and his cough sounds like it hurts.
Tyke is doing a lot better from his bout with croup. He still has a runny, stuffy nose and a phlegm sounding cough that is mostly gone unless he runs around the house like a mad man, which he does all the time! If he gets worked up he starts coughing and once he starts coughing he starts gagging on the phlegm until throws up all over the place. He has successfully thrown up every night for the past eight days! It's disgusting and we're tired of cleaning it up.
And last but not least our poor little Luke has caught this dreaded cold too. He started sounding stuffy on Christmas Eve day sadly and it has only gotten worse. We have done everything we could to try and keep him heathy but it obviously wasn't enough. Our poor little guy has been picked on like crazy by me trying to keep his little nose clear so he can breathe comfortably. We have been running the humidifier non-stop right next to him, keeping him propped up while he sleeps, vapor baths, putting Vick's vapor rub on his feet and chest, saline drops in his nose before every feeding (so like every two hours) and suctioning his nose after every feeding and even spending time outside in the freezing cold to try and open up his airways. We found some Zarbee's cough/mucus medicine suitable for babies two months old and up and we've been giving him that too but I'm not sure it's really helping. It has been an exhausting couple of weeks trying to keep my babies comfortable! Luke's cough has gotten worse and worse, still no barking thank goodness, but he sounds very congested and tight. He looks like he feels miserable and it's heartbreaking. His little eyes and eyebrows are red and droopy and he just looks exhausted from trying to hard to breathe and cough. Today we finally gave in and took him to the doctors office. We were able to see Dr. Lauritzen and he assured us that Luke's lungs and ears look and sound perfect! That right there, that peace of mind, was worth taking him in. Dr. Lauritzen looked into the back of Luke's throat and told us there was a ton of mucus and that Luke would be a great candidate for visiting the "suction clinic" at the hospital. After telling us our little guy was fine, just congested, the doctor asked us which hospital we prefer. Chad and I looked at each other like "oh crap!" thinking our little guy was going to be admitted! Instead, the doctor just wanted to know so that he could send a prescription over for Luke to visit respiratory anytime he needs to for the next week. As soon as we were done with our visit we headed right over to Payson hospital and checked in through the emergency and headed up to respiratory for the procedure. Luke was sound asleep when we started and did fairly well. It was a super quick procedure and we were surprised at how fast it was over with. The respiratory therapist tipped Luke upside down in his carseat and had Chad hold his head while he dumped saline down his nose. After only seconds he stuck a small hose to nose and sucked lots and lots of snot out. Luke fussed only for a few seconds. After we were done his breathing sounded so much better but his cough was still yucky. He has been resting comfortably since having his nose cleaned out but he still sounds very congested. My poor baby! He's not quite three months old and battling his second nasty cold. I can't wait to have him and my other boys well again!
