Happy New Year 2014

We had a great night celebrating New Year's Eve!  We stayed home for a couple of hours and made the big mistake of eating something for dinner, before heading out to a couple of family parties. (We were both too full to enjoy all of the party goodies, big mistake!)

First stop was Grandma Jean's.  She had a house full!  For dinner they had salads, veggies, meatballs, and Subway sandwich platters.  I couldn't eat a thing, neither could Chad but he was finally talked into having some.  While Chad visited with family in the kitchen, Tyke and I were in the living room watching the "kids" play curses.  Weird game but we all had lots of laughs.  Brent and Tammy have some good acting skills!  Tyke was content with crawling through the piano legs and playing with the lever on the recliner the entire time.  He's such a curious kid!  After visiting for nearly an hour we decided to head out to Mona to party number two, the Kay clan.  Chad was tired and kept trying, without success, to talk me into just going home for the rest of the night.

The Mona party was held at Rick and Lucinda's.  It was a madhouse!  There were so many kids there having a great time that you couldn't even hear yourself.  For dinner they had hamburgers and hot dogs and then everyone brought a potluck item.  Outside a campfire had been built to roast the hot dogs.  We were nearly an hour late so missed all of that fun, not that we would have eaten anyway.  We had a good time visiting with aunts and uncles and cousins.  Tyke had fun playing with his cousin Kayson and his friend Cache!  At one point I thought Tyke and Kayson might get in a little fight they way they were acting over Kayson's bottle.  They both enjoyed playing with Aunt Lucinda's oven door and stove top nobs.  Little stinkers!  They were so fun to watch together!  Lucinda was a great host and had the kids entertained with games and prizes the entire time.  A couple of times they were able to convince us old people to join in on that fun.  As the hour got closer to midnight, Lucinda and the kids passed out hats, necklaces and noise makers.  Once the noise makers were out things really got loud!  Tyke had a confused look on his face.  It was hours past his bedtime and he was still going strong!  I gave him a bottle and went into a "quiet" room to try and get him to sleep but he was determined to stay up!  We gave him a noisemaker as everyone gathered into the family room for the big countdown.  The kids were going wild (more wild than they had been!).  Tyke didn't quite know what to think.  We showed  him how to use his little noise making horn and he thought that was pretty cool.  After he learned that it makes noises,  he was constantly trying to stuff it in mine or Chad's mouth.  He got a kick out of it!  We did the final countdown and everyone hurried to leave.  Lucinda was a little shocked at  how fast everyone got out of there.  Tyke was still wide awake and refused to let go of his horn.  We got him loaded up in the car and at this point he was super ornery and fussy.  As soon as we drove off he went silent, fast asleep!  When we got home and went to get him out of the car we both laughed at the sight of our little party animal, fast asleep with his horn still tightly gripped.

We had so much fun and we're glad we were able to ring in the New Year with family!  Happy 2014!
