Tyke is changing so much that I feel like I can't keep track of all of his new "milestones." The boy is walking all over the house now! The whole walking phase has been fun to watch. He has been so unsure of it and would only take five or six steps at a time. Within the last week though that mind set has changed. Tyke will walk wherever he wants. His balance is so good now. The slick tile doesn't seem to phase him at all. If he falls down he quickly crawls to the nearest wall, furniture, person, whatever and pulls himself back up so he can run, I mean walk, again.
He is everywhere in and into everything! He's a total snoop and ignores us when we get after him. He doesn't so much ignore, he just chooses to not mind. He'll look at us and smile and continue doing what he shouldn't be doing.
He's starting to show interest in climbing on the furniture. He will lift one leg clear up and grunt and struggle and eventually give up. He does the same when he helps run his bath water. He loves his bath time and gets so excited that he tries to jump in fully clothed. I'm waiting for the day he finally does. Tyke can safely get himself off of the couches now. Most of the time he climbs off normally but every once in a while he dives off head first (and gives me a heart attack!) "safely." His Daddy showed him how to put his arms in front of himself so he doesn't just land on his head. I prefer he goes off feet first though! =)
Tyke is genius, I swear, at playing with his toys that need to hook together a certain way. With new toys it literally takes him three tries and he's mastered it. He studies new things so carefully. His new little train set that Great Grandma Jean gave him for his birthday is a good example. The little cars carry animals that have to be snapped in exact. They each have their own shape that they need to be lined up to. It took Tyke about three tries before he figured it out and now it's no problem at all. He's now trying to figure out how the tracks snap together. He's just like his Daddy, he has to know how things work!
At Tyke's 12 month check up we were given the OK to feed him new foods (eggs, peanut butter and honey). The peanut butter thing scares me because there are so many nut allergies these days! We were told how we could and should ease into it. First we put a little peanut butter on Tyke's skin. It didn't show any reaction (we were looking for welts, hives or a rash). Once that test was passed then we could give him a taste of the good stuff. Instead of giving him straight peanut butter we let him have a bite of a Reese's candy bar. He loved it and did great with it. We haven't given him peanut butter since but our next step will be a couple of bites of a peanut butter sandwich and then slowly move forward. We gave Tyke some scrambled eggs and a piece of toast on Saturday. We weren't quite sure how he's like the eggs. He's like me and is a very picky eater when it comes to new tastes and textures. He gobbled those eggs right down and grunted for more! We were surprised! The toast mostly ended up on the floor (he has a bad habit of throwing foods overboard) but the eggs got eaten. Yay for a new favorite food for our little guy!
At the 12 month check up we were also told that if we wanted we could change his car seat to forward facing. We were going to wait on the car seat thing, maybe keep him rear facing a few months longer because it didn't really bother him. He has never struggled much when being put in his car seats. Well on Saturday when we loaded up and headed north to do some grocery shopping the sun was shining bright, right in Tyke's face. He hates that! He let us know too, so we pulled over before we ever even got out of town and turned his seat around. He LOVED it! He thought it was so cool to be able to see what we could see. He kept both of his feet on our seats the whole time. I must admit, it was nice for us too! We could see what he was doing and it was really nice to be able to hand him his bottle and treats without guessing if we had made contact.
Our baby boy isn't so much a baby anymore. He's starting to look and act more and more like a little boy! He'll always be my baby though, whether he likes it or not! =)
