12 Month Well Check

Tyke had his 12 month well check today and it was a mean one!  Tyke really dislikes the doctors office.  As soon as we walked into the building he knew exactly where we were.  We went upstairs and got checked in and waited maybe five minutes before being called back.  As soon as Tyke saw his nurse he panicked a little.  We tried to tell him that everything was OK, that this visit wasn't going to be very much fun but that he needed to be brave and tough.  Yeah right!  Our poor little Tyke.  After getting weighed in and measured, his nurse had to poke his finger for a blood sample to test his iron levels (which were perfect).  Tyke freaked right out!  Once he realized there was a big blue camouflaged band aid on his finger he calm down and tried to shake it off of his hand.

Tyke's 12 month stats:
Weight: 21 pounds 4 ounces (43%)
Height: 30.8 inches (83%)
Head: 19.1 inches (97%)

Dr. Fullmer came in and we had a good talk about Tyke.  Tyke was fine until Dr. Fullmer started his check up.  Tyke cried big crocodile tears and tried his hardest to get away.  Everything checked out great!  We were told we can start Tyke on vitamins since he has started being picky about eating.  We were also told that if we want we can now have Tyke forward facing in his car seat.  We are going to try and wait a little longer before doing that.

After Dr. Fullmer left, Tyke's nurse came back in with a tray full of shot needles.  She told us that this set immunizations is one of the worst because it stings and there are a lot.  Tyke got FOUR shots!  One in each leg and one in each arm.  Our poor little guy had a complete melt down!  We were able to quickly distract him by asking where his balloons were?  He stopped crying immediately and looked around the room for them.  He was still sad and kept crying a little here and there until we exited the building.  As soon as we were outside all he wanted was his Daddy!  We moved the car seat into Daddy's truck, loaded Tyke up and headed home!

Tyke did really well and we didn't have to give him any Motrin until close to bedtime, around 9 p.m.  He started getting really fussy, more so than usual, so we gave him a dose of Motrin and a bottle and he fell right to sleep.  We're glad that this set of shots is over with!  And we're thankful for our healthy, perfect Tyke!!!
