Time needs to slow down! Another month has come and gone and our little Tykers is now 8 months old! He's growing so fast and his little personality is getting sassy! To say he's spoiled is an understatement. (Great Grandma Jean always says: "He's not spoiled, he's loved!" And that is so true!) The kid has got an attitude and can get his own way easily. He knows it too! He can turn those little tears on and off as he pleases and if we don't respond in his time frame then he turns on the broken hearted cry that makes you feel so guilty you have to give in and pick him up. As soon as that happens the tears stop, the crying stops and he just grins at us like "suckers!" He's a little stinker and we love him so much!
Shortly after turning seven months old Tyke developed this super high pitched annoying squeal. He does it non stop and just grins when we tell him to stop it. It's loud and hurts the ears and he thinks it's so funny. He still squeals but now it's mostly short little high pitched chirps. Silly boy!
Around August 24th we noticed Tyke started flapping his little arms. He gets so excited they just flap out of control. His daddy jokes with him that he can't fly and that makes Tyke flap even harder and laugh. It's too cute!
Tyke has been trying so hard to get up on all fours but he hasn't quite gotten there yet. He will push and push and push (like push ups) with his arms trying to get up and in the process pushes himself backwards. He gets where he's going regardless of how he does it. He can spin completely around to move in the direction he wants to go by lifting himself with his arms and grabbing and pulling into position. He rolls a lot more now than ever before. He does most of his moving when we're not looking though, so I'm not really sure how he gets where he's going so darn fast because we miss it. He gets super proud of himself though when we ask how he got where he is, he just grins and coos proudly.
Tyke's little legs never stop moving! In the tub he's a wild man and by the time he's done splashing everything, and I mean everything, is soaked! He loves tub time but you would never tell by the look on his face. He's sober as can be and just concentrates on his little legs and how fast and hard he can kick them. When laying down on the floor his legs kick constantly. He's getting pretty talented with them. He kicks until he gets where he wants to go. He kicks until he pops toys up into his hands so he can play. When sitting up he kicks to spin himself around in circles to see what he needs to see.
Tyke has started pulling himself up onto his knees and sometimes into standing position. He only does this with Chad and I and not furniture yet. Although there were those couple of times he pulled himself up on to his knees in his crib, before we lowered the mattress. Sometimes we wonder if our little man is going to walk before he crawls...time will tell!
Tyke loves to walk around the house with the assistance of his daddy. They walk up and down the hallway almost nightly and Tyke just grins from ear to ear. His little legs know just what to do and he doesn't miss a beat. Sometimes he gets so excited I swear he tries to run. For the most part though, he does a cute little march as he walks with his Pa. Tyke will be walking by himself sooner than we want but we're so excited for him to learn. My favorite though is when I got home from work the other day and saw Daddy and Tyke walking out to get the mail. It was so adorable!
August 30th Tyke said "momma" for the first time! I thought I had heard him saying it earlier in the day but I thought nothing of it until Chad pointed it out that night. The entire weekend Tyke continued to jabber "momma!" Makes this momma's heart melt every time I hear it! He's slowed down on it now and is back to saying "dada" most of the time. Oh well.
To make up for always saying dada instead of momma, this is my theory anyway, Tyke smothers me in wet kisses, aka "ah wah's". I LOVE THEM! He grabs a handful of my hair and kisses my cheeks. He gives them all of the time and snuggles on my shoulder so sweetly. I usually get slapped afterwards, but it's a price I'm willing to pay. Tyke refuses to give Chad any kisses, possibly because of the facial hair, but he snuggles with him too. It's my favorite scene, my boys snuggled up with each other! Tyke is such a sweetheart!
Tyke also likes to share. He's constantly trying to stuff his binky in our mouths. We refuse and he thinks it's so funny and tries again. It's pretty fun to have him tease us and we tease back. There have been some morning that I've woken up to him shoving his bink in my face. What a way to wake up!
Size 3-6 month clothes have been retired and Tyke is currently wearing 6-9 month, some 9-12 month, but mostly 9 month. We are on our last few size 2 diapers and will be purchasing size 3's when they're gone. (We got rid of the size 3's in the closet, sent them to Oregon because we're not fans of Huggies, time to finally start purchasing diapers, yay)
Tyke LOVES reading books. There are only a couple that he really likes right now: Little Blue Truck, I Love You Through and Through, and At the Zoo. Anything else and he loses interest pretty fast. He likes to smack the pages and he gets so excited when we let him turn them. As for TV he usually could care less about watching it. It's on quite a bit but mostly for background noise. He's too busy playing with his toys and books to care. Unless, of course, Jake and the Neverland Pirates comes on and then he's all ears. He's always been that way with this cartoon.
Tyke is constantly making noises with his cute little mouth. He'll either blow bubbles or use his little fingers to flip his lips. It's adorable and we all get a kick out of it, including him. He'll even occasionally humor us with flipping our lips with those tiny hands. Sometimes he gets a little rough but for the most part it only last for a couple of seconds until we're all laughing and he stops.
Another trick with his mouth that he has just recently started is getting a mouth full of slobber and spitting it out in bubbles that run down his little chin. I get after him for that one and he just laughs at me and continues on. He's so much fun!
I swear Tyke has way too much energy sometimes and we pay for it when picking him up when he doesn't want to be held. He flaps his arms and kicks with his legs and arches his back and throw his head backwards right into your chest. It's a wicked little trick but it gets the job done for him. He nearly knocks the air out of us and we have to either turn him around to face us or put him down to avoid bruises and sometimes fat lips (I've had a few of those!).
Tyke has been sleeping fairly well in his crib the last few weeks. We're still getting up 1-2 times a night, usually around 1:30 am and 5 am. It's exhausting but I love our bonding time (even if we're both half awake). Tyke has learned to pull himself up to the side of his crib so we've had to lower it. He was so proud of himself and now he's just stuck laying down, for now. It won't be long before he's breaking free of that thing. He's still a fan of his little "TV" that hangs over the side. He doesn't watch it much but he sure has fun hitting and kicking it on and off. We noticed the other night he was lying on his belly and turning the "TV" on and off with the top of his head, purposely. It was so cute!
We've noticed that Tyke has really been studying his hands and how they move, when he calms down enough to do so. He'll just stare at them and slowly move his fingers and then get excited and flap his arms and slow back down to study again. He's always been really busy with his fingers. He flaps them at everything. I think he's starting to understand how to wave hi and bye. He's only done it a couple of times officially, but you can see the wheels in his head turning when you slowly wave bye bye to him. It won't be long before he's waving back!
Tyke loves food! He's always been a good little eater (except for those yucky green beans). We are currently stocked up on the Gerber Organic squeeze pouches. Tyke loves them and thinks he's so big eating from them. He's to the point now that we don't have to squeeze the pouch much at all, he sucks the food right out like sucking through a straw. It's so convenient and pretty much mess free. Tyke also drinks from cups and water bottles like a champ! He has since the first time we attempted it. He honestly makes a bigger mess drinking from a sippy cup than from the big boy stuff. Speaking of "big boy" a few adult foods that Tyke has tried in the last couple of weeks are: strawberry jello (LOVED), watermelon (gagged), gluten free pancakes with syrup (gagged), a drop of syrup (loved), strawberry lemonade (loved), mashed potatoes (not so sure, gagged but wanted more), chocolate and vanilla puddings (loved), ice cream (likes but I think it's too cold for him to love it just yet), and the pudding/whipped cream topping w/caramel off the top of an eclair cake (LOVED and growled for more so his Daddy had to go back for seconds for him). Our guy is growing, growing, growing! Oh yeah, and if he can get his little hands on a piece of paper he loves to eat that too! I have had to dig it out of his mouth a couple of times and that little turkey will NOT release his jaw so I can get my fingers in. It's seriously a fight and I have to squeeze his cheeks to pop his mouth open so I can get in there!
Speaking of food, I'm still lucky enough to be nursing our little guy. I'm getting exhausted by it but I don't want to give up until my body decides to. It's so time consuming but rewarding at the same time. I feel very lucky to be able to have these bonding moments with my boy. My only complaint is the little stinker refuses to hold still and his arms and hands are constantly moving. For the most part it's not so bad but he pinches now, a lot! And only on my left arm. It is literally covered in teeny tiny little bruises courtesy of Tyke. I don't know how to stop him. I've gotten after him, I've smacked his little hand, and all he does is pulls off and looks at me and giggles. He's a smart little stinker and knows what he's doing! He makes me smile but boy do those pinches hurt! He's also started kicking me and biting the past couple of day. Oh Tyke!
A while ago we bought Tyke a Fisher Price rock-a-stack toy (the cone with the stackable rings). He loves that toy so much! We don't really let him play with the post part unless we're right there to watch because he tries to shove it down his throat. He has fun with the rings though. He'll place them between his legs when he's in sitting position and kick them like crazy. I swear he's going to be a soccer player when he grows up. It's unreal how good of control he has over those little legs. The other day Chad noticed Tyke was paying very close attention to the smallest ring. It's a harder plastic and has little beads in it that move around. He was concentrating so hard on that thing and Chad soon realized what he was doing. He was trying to control where the little beads went. He was slowly moving the ring around and watching where they would go. I don't think 7 1/2 month old babies are usually like this, are they? Tyke is a curious little guy and studies everything new that we send his way. He's so fun to watch!
Tyke's eyes are finally deciding on a color, we think. The past few days they have stayed the same hazel color (like his Daddy's) which has led us to believe that's what color they will be. We're still uncertain though because for the past 8 months they've changed so much, like a chameleon. His hair is getting thicker and longer by the day. We're still not sure on its color either. Some days it's dark, some days it's blonde. No matter what though he is always the most handsome, perfect little guy we've ever known!!!!!
(And for the record, getting these 8 month old pictures were almost impossible! Tyke can't hold still for two seconds anymore. It was a two man job and even then Chad and I had our hands full. Little stinker!) We love you baby Tyke!!!

I sure do love that little guy! Nice post honey! I love seeing what you write and smiling at all of the little things that little guy does :)
