Turns out that maybe Tyke's cough is a good thing...
Yesterday was a near cough-less day for our little man! He hardly coughed at all and he had no runny nose, yay! The antibiotic seems to be working great and Tyke takes it really well (I almost don't have to push on the syringe to administer the meds, he sucks it dry by himself). Tyke has stayed in our room the last few nights so we could close the doors and really get the humidifier going for him (if he's in his room the door is open and that makes it pretty much ineffective). Last night, or early this morning, whichever way you look at it, around 2 am Tyke started coughing fairly hard. I woke up enough to sit him up and give him a sip of water and re-positioned him. He kept coughing and I finally noticed a strong smell of smoke. I woke Chad up and told him it smelled like smoke! He was a bit stuffy so he couldn't really tell. Tyke and I fell back to sleep while Chad left the room to go and investigate. Chad said there was so much smoke coming from the fireplace that it was like walking through fog. For some reason instead of it going out the chimney it filled the house instead, and our smoke detectors failed to go off! (We know they work because we set them off often when small puffs of smoke escape, so I am at a loss as to why they didn't work when the house was full of smoke??) Chad opened all of the windows, turned on fans and went through two cans of air freshener trying to get rid of the smell. This morning when we woke up and left the bedroom (it doesn't stink too bad because the door was closed the whole time) the house stunk like a camp fire! It still does! I'm really thankful that Tyke coughed enough to wake us up otherwise who knows what would have happened.
