Food Prep

As Chad and I were going through old papers the other day we came across Tyke's 6 month check up check off list.  He has always done awesome and we've always been able to say that yes he does do the things that he needs to be doing developmentally.  On the back of this list I noticed things to look forward to for the 9 month check up (which will be coming up way too soon for this momma to admit!).  Tyke is doing everything that is listed on this list except for one: picking up snacks and feeding himself.  He picks up lots of things and puts them in his mouth, just not food.  The little stinker will have a high chair tray full of treats and he'll move them around, pick them up, and then stow them away in the back corner of his chair.  We've started really working with him on how to get the treat to his mouth and not his stockpile.  He just looks at us and grins his goofy grin.  He'll grab a treat and play with it and we'll help him get it to his mouth.  As soon as it touches his lips he drops it, he wants nothing to do with it.  He's more than willing to eat the treats if we feed him.

Friday Quade came over to play for a while.  He and Tyke are best buddies.  Tyke kept giving him kisses and loves, Quade kept saying he was trying to bite him.  It was pretty cute!

Quade took a shot at teaching Tyke how to feed himself some Gerber Cheetos.  Tyke really watched and listened to him, more so than he does Chad or I, but he still wouldn't feed himself.  He just grinned at Quade.  Quade kept trying but Tyke refused.
The next day our little guy is feeding himself like a pro!  Quade's persistence paid off!  Instead of stashing his treats in his chair he's stashing them in his cheeks like a little chipmunk!  It's crazy how fast he learned that little trick!  We now have to limit how many treats we put in front of Tyke because if you give him a handful it's all going in his little mouth at once!
