Chad and I had no luck in drawing out for any hunts this year. Chad, Grandpa Terry and Uncles Seth and Trenton bought "any bull" elk tags to make up for it (I'm not sure if the other guys drew out for anything or not? I know Seth did...). This "any bull" elk hunt started over the weekend. I took Friday off from work and we got an early start at getting things loaded and hit the road.
We camped down south near Cove Fort, aka our deer camp home sweet home. Our little family of three made good time and got there in the early afternoon. We found a great little camp spot and got things parked and set up. Tyke was so good while Chad and I hurried to get things situated! After getting things set up and put away we made a quick lunch of PB&J's and watched Tyke play on the trailer floor with his toys (after I had hand scrubbed the area for him). He was in heaven sliding around on the slick floor and playing with the table legs. After relaxing for a while we all loaded up in the Toyota and went for a ride to check out the area and see if we could see any animals. We didn't see one single thing! We headed back to camp and roasted some hot dogs for dinner. The rest of our hunting crew arrived late that night (Grandpa Terry, Grandma Cheryl, Trenton, Rachelle and kids, and Trenton's family). Grandpa Terry and Grandma Cheryl stayed with us in our trailer.
Saturday morning the guys were up and gone by 7 am. Rachelle's father in law cooked us all breakfast and we sat around the fire pit watching the kids play in the dirt. Trayson had a blast in it! The guys were back to camp by 10 am. Us girls did a little craft project that kept us well entertained for hours, until it was time for the guys to head out on their night hunts. We painted/decorated pumpkins made out of 2x4 scraps. They turned out really cute! The guys headed back out for the night hunt and us gals and the kiddos hung around the camp fire.
Sunday morning the guys did a quick morning hunt, again seeing nothing, and then came back to camp. They all decided there was no point wasting anymore time in the area so we loaded up all of the trailers and were out of there by 3 pm.
It was a fun, perfect weekend even if there were no tags filled. We ate good, had good company, and got to spend time with our family! Who could ask for more?
