35 Months Old

Mr. Roni-Roo is thirty five months old today!  In another month our little man will be three years old!  I can't figure how it is possible that time has flown so fast?!  Tyke just keeps getting more and more fun and we are always so excited to see what new and fun things he does and learns!

Tyke is the biggest protector, and biggest bully, of Luke!  He makes sure little brother is well taken care of and that people leave him alone.  If anyone jokes that Luke is going to go to their house Tyke gets upset and blocks his brother behind him and tells them to leave his Louie-pooey alone.  It's so darn cute!  And then usually in the same breath Tyke will turn around and push Luke down or steal his toy or slap him or something.  Luke is almost always crying (some of that may be because he knows he can get Tyke in trouble) and Tyke is always running to hide from us because he knows he's going to be in trouble.  Brotherly love I tell ya!  Really though, Tyke is a sweetheart to his brother most of the time.  If Luke is upset Tyke tries his hardest to fix it.  He is always handing Luke his binky, his bottle, his sippy.  And he's always giving Luke kisses and rubbing his arm to calm him down when he's mad.  They hold hands in the morning while they drink their milk and watch their cartoons.  My heart could explode watching them together, even though they are our double trouble!!

Tyke is our big helper.  There's nothing he likes more than to help his mommy and daddy.  He's always telling, with a serious look on his face, "I doe helpa my Dad!" "I nee doe helpa my Dad!"  He loves working out in the yard or shop with his Daddy.  He loves helping out with anything and thinks it's pretty cool when we give him tasks to do.  He's been my big helper in the house lately.  He's super quick and excited to pick up toys.  He does it without much hesitation and runs around like a mad man gathering toys and telling me, "Mom, I keening!"  Other "chores" Tyke likes helping us with are: the dishes (he loves getting his step stool out and scrubbing the dishes for us...I mean, playing in the water), putting things into the garbage, throwing Luke's bottles/sippy cups in the sink, helping Dad move firewood, helping run the log splitter (which is about the cutest thing I've ever seen!) and getting his head under the car hood with his Daddy.  This boy loves to watch and learn and do and he always has his step stool close by so that he can get up and see and do by himself.  He's getting more and more independent.

Tyke's little terrible two attitude is starting to evolve into something else.  I've heard that age three is worse than the terrible two's and I'm wondering if that's where we're headed?  He's such a good kid but he is starting to get a little temper and can throw some big mean fits when he doesn't get his way.  He mostly acts out like this if he hasn't had enough nap time for the day.  But man, this kid can scream!  He will a scream a mad, high pitched scream and he usually likes to hit us with a little slap to our leg or arm to let us know he's serious.  Well we don't put up with that so he gets a little slap back.  That hard headed Tyke thinks he needs to have the last hit and the last say and runs in circles circling back for more.  It's exhausting for all of us.  We're working on it though and have found other ways to discipline him.  He HATES sticking his nose to the wall and waiting out his time out that way so that usually gets his attention to be good.  Tyke is also in a very demanding mood lately.  He wants what he wants and now!  Nearly everything he demands is followed by a bratty sounding "now!"  Of course, with that attitude he doesn't get what he wants from us.  He knows we don't like to be spoken to that way and we're working on ways to get him to communicate with us nicer.

Tyke really is a good kid.  He's so sweet and caring and thoughtful.  He's always so concerned about everyone around him.  He is always listing to us who his friends are (Luke, Bowdee, Quade).  He gives the best hugs and kisses.  He loves to snuggle and will usually sneak out bed at night and come find me and tell me, "Mom, hold me!" which I gladly do.  It makes me a little sad when I do hold him all snuggled up in my lap because it's then that I really realize just how big he's getting.  I know I won't be able to enjoy this for much longer before he really is my big boy!

Tyke is hilarious to have a conversation with lately.  He is smart!  He knows his stuff and it's been so fun to converse with him.  He's a little clown and almost always has us laughing.  A few of his latest new phrases are:
  • "You have any monies mom?" (He's always asking for money lately, even though we don't give him any.  I think it goes back to him helping Daddy put up the outside Christmas lights and Chad telling him that he would pay him for his good service.  He never got paid and he asks us daily for monies haha)
  • "I need tome monies mom!"
  • "I help my Daddy all day!" (He brags to me when he gets to help his Daddy outside.  I love it!)
  • "Well wood you wook at dat!" (He has said this phrase a lot and with a lot of empasis on "dat!"  He mostly says it when we're out looking at Christmas lights.  He loves the lights this year!)
  • "Dats pretty tool mom!" ("That's pretty cool mom!" is what I get told when I point out something I think that he will like.)
  • "What'd you do dat for?!" (When the TV gets turned off, something gets taken away, or we teasingly poke him in the belly he says "What'd you do that for?!" in a cute little disgusted voice.  He's fun to tease.)
  • "I no a baby! I Kykie-Roni!" (Oh how he HATES being referred to as my baby!  He really thinks his name is Tykie-Roni but pronounces it with a "K" instead of a "T")
This kid has gotten super picky about eating!  He absolutely refuses to eat anything new.  He sticks to his pizza, torn dogs (corn dogs), grilled cheese sandwiches, pancakes and sausage.  That's about the extent of his diet right now and it drives me crazy!  He likes to eat yogurt but takes out the chunks.  He likes apple sauce and fig newton cookies.  He's strange haha.  He's growing though.  His pants are floods on him.  We still have him in size 3t pants but will be trying size 4t jeans soon.  I'm worried that 4t will be too big around his waste but I know that the length will be good.  We're not sure what to do with that...  Tyke wears size 3t/4t/4 shirts.  He's still in a size 5 diaper and absolutely refuses to potty train.  We'll give him another month and then we'll push for it again.  He's more stubborn about things than I am and I'm pretty stubborn so I'm not sure how things will work out.  Tyke is still in a size 10 shoe but I think it might be about time to buy new ones.  He's a big boy for his age!  When we took him to the doctor a week or so ago for croup he weighed in somewhere around 36 pounds.  He's solid and is getting more and more heavy for me to pick up and carry.  It makes me sad.  I don't know how it's fair that three years have passed by so fast?

We love every minute of this kid!  We enjoy his help, his personality and his love.  He's my sweetheart and Daddy's big helper.  He's got a huge imagination and a great work ethic.  He's Luke's best buddy and ours too.  Happy 35 months Kykie-Roni!
