Our little guy is six months old today! I can hardly believe it! I can't believe that Luke is half a year old. Time needs to slow down, please! He is such a happy baby! He smiles a lot especially at his Daddy. All it takes is Chad looking at him and he gives the biggest ear to ear smile you've ever seen. It melts my heart! I love it!
To celebrate Luke's half birthday we made him a messy gluten free funfetti cake. It was a new mix I had found and I was excited to try it but it wasn't near as good as a chocolate cake. We had a little party at Grandpa Terry and Grandma Cheryl's to celebrate Luke's half and Sophie's fourth birthdays. While snapping a picture of Lou with his half cake (that didn't stand up worth a darn) he stuck his little fist right in and grabbed a handful of frosting. He didn't act too excited or upset, not amused at all. He never even got a taste of the yummy frosting, dang! After cleaning him up we enjoyed some cake. Happy half birthday Louie!!!
Luke is a dream baby! He's happy as can be and content almost all of the time. The only times he gets fussy are when he's hungry and when he wants to sit up. He LOVES to sit up and see what's going on around him. He's kind of a snoop that way. He will lie on his back and play and roll over (only from his back to his belly and still not the other way around) until he's had enough and needs to be propped up. He can't sit by himself yet but he's getting better at it every day. He will sit up for about five seconds before slowly folding over in half. We pulled out the high chair and started putting Louie in it at meal times so he can sit at the dinner table with us. He loves it. He will sit and watch his big brother eat and just grin and they giggle back and forth. I have a blanket in his high chair to stuff around him to help him stay upright. He fits pretty good but there is still plenty of wiggle room for him to slouch.
Luke loves him some baby food! We haven't found one that he doesn't like, yet. He has tried rice cereal, carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, apple sauce, bananas and peaches. We've been taking it kind of easy feeding him baby food because he's had a near constant belly ache every night. His poor little tummy gets so tight. It takes a while working with him but eventually we get some gas bubbles pushed out, either end, and all is well again. If we feed him baby food every third day he seems to do better that way. He will eat an entire container in one sitting now followed off with either a bottle, nursing, or a bottle of apple-prune juice (he tends to wait a few days between pooping episodes...). Sometimes I feel like our little guy is a bottomless pit! I'm still able to nurse but I'm starting to stress a little that I may not be able to keep up with his demand. I'm trying a few tricks to up my supply before I just throw in the towel. It's bittersweet. I'm ready to be done nursing but now that I feel like it's winding down I'm sad about it. Luke takes formula like a champ! We bought some little travel packs of Similac and he has had no problems with it. Our little guy is growing big and strong! On a side note I should mention that Luke had his first sip of water from a straw. Grandpa Terry gave it to him on 3-8-15 and it loved it. Grandpa would get some water in his straw and then feed it to Lou and he ate it right up. I couldn't get mad at Grandpa because it was just too cute!
Mr. Lou is a very squirmy little guy. We'll lay him on the floor to play and before we know it he has kicked and scooted his way to whatever he has his eyes on. He will roll over onto his belly and try so hard to get his knees underneath him to go. He'll get them moved in just so and then kick, pushing himself forward. It doesn't get him too far, yet, but he definitely knows how to get to what he wants. He's super grabby lately and anything that he can get his cute chubby hands on goes straight to his mouth. He gobbles up everything! He's completely different than Tyke was and we love it!
Luke loves playing with his toys. He has a few favorites. He loves his little pillow toy that Grandma Cheryl and Grandpa Terry gave him for Christmas. Luckily the batteries went dead in that thing because it was the touchiest toy I've ever seen. All you had to do was look at it and it would start playing music, I swear! It was loud too and no way to turn it off. There were a few times it literally would start playing music by itself in the middle of the night, talk about freaky. Anyway, Luke loves it. We can lay him on his belly and prop him up onto it by his arm pits so he can look around good. He wiggles a bit too much for this and usually ends up shooting himself over the pillow or shooting the pillow out from underneath him. Either way he doesn't stay on it very long. He loves the mirror on it and the rattle but his most favorite thing about that toy are the huge tags on the end of it that we've never bothered to cut off. He loves them and concentrates so hard to grab them and eat them. They're big and make a crinkle noise and he loves crinkle noises! His other favorite toys are his crinkle book (that thing has been loved to death! It needs a bath bad!), his keys from the Easter Bunny (he chews on them like crazy) and his stuffed dragon that he got at the Easter egg hunt. He loves them all and they're usually soaked to prove it.
Louie-pooey (as Tyke refers to him and now we all do) has found some new tricks that he thinks are pretty cool! On 3-9-15 he found his tongue and has played with it since, like a lizard. He also makes his mouth go crooked and he sucks in his top lip at the same time. It's adorable! His latest, and naughtiest, trick is arching his back when he's put in his car seat or the bathtub chair. He doesn't put up much of a fight and he isn't fussy at all but he arches his back so much that he nearly flips himself right out of his chairs, especially his car seat chair. I'll get after him and he just grins. He thinks he's pretty funny doing this, me, not so much. Luke has also really found his voice lately. He has learned a very high pitched squeal that he thinks is hilarious. It seriously hurts the ears but it's cute too. Everything our boys do is cute, for now...
Luke is the sweetest little snuggler ever. He's always been a snuggly baby but in the last month he's really gotten cozy with us. He LOVES his binky and his minky blankets. He will not snuggle with any other kind of blanket. If he's fussy because he's tired all it takes is his bink and his minky blanket. He immediately closes his eyes and pulls his blanket right up over his face and falls asleep. It's so cute but freaks us out a little, him covering his face with a blanket. It works like a charm!
Lou's beautiful, dark blue eyes are starting to turn brown. I'm both happy and sad about this. Happy because I love Tyke and Chad's brown eyes and Luke will match, but sad because he seriously has the prettiest blue eyes. The deepest blue you've ever seen. So right now his eyes are brown around the iris' then fade to greenish blue and the outter ring of his eyes are the dark blue. It will be interesting to see just what color they decide to stay.
Luke is growing so fast! He seems so big to me for a six month old, both length and weight. At his last doctors appointment, when he was sick with an ear infection, he weighed just over 18 pounds! I'd dare bet he's closer to twenty by now. He's wearing anywhere from 6-12 month clothes! There are a lot of clothes that we didn't even get to use because he grew too fast for them and I was too slow to get them out. I'm a little bummed about it but oh well. Luke has been moved into size 3 diapers as of 3-13-15 and right now they seem a little snug. He's officially too big for his bouncy chair. He still fits but he's so heavy that when we place him in it it folds down almost flat to the ground. He has dimples and rolls everywhere and we love it!
We love our chubby bubby, Louie-pooey so much! Happy half birthday buddy!
