Sick Boy

This morning around 4 a.m. I woke up to a wheezing Tyke.  I listened to him trying to breathe and felt so bad.  This little cold of his sounded like it had settled into his chest.  He was choking to breathe and had a barking cough.  I woke him up, fed and changed him and he quickly fell back to sleep.  Just before 9 a.m. he woke up coughing, sneezing and wheezing and sounded like he had lost his little voice.  He sounded so congested and kept choking on all the gunk in his throat, I just knew that this cold was winning.  I called Chad and we decided it was time to take Tyke to the doctor to get checked out.

I called up to Dr. Fullmer's office and was able to get an appointment for 9:50 a.m.  In fact they told me I could head up right then and they'd get us in to be seen.  I still needed to get Tyke bathed and ready for the day so we didn't leave right off.  Once we got on the road I realized we had to stop for gas and then we had a slow commute in the windy, rainy weather.  Tyke coughed and sneezed a lot on the drive up.  We ended up being about 10 minutes late and were taken right back to be seen.  By this time Tyke sounded a lot better.

Dr. Fullmer checked Tyke over well and let us know that he was perfectly fine, thank goodness!  His oxygen level was perfect, no fever, and he is up to 13 pounds now!  Tyke's chest was clear and his throat and ears looked really good.  His right ear did have a little bit of clear fluid in it but nothing to cause concern.  Tyke was all smiles during his visit with Dr. Fullmer.  You would never know that he's been fighting this cold for a week now.  His mornings have been rough but he's always had a smile on his face (except for a few little melt downs).

We were told that Tyke should be all cleared up by next Monday and that if he's not we'll need to take him back in.  In the meantime we'll keep doing what we've been doing: humidifier, elevated bed, hot steamy showers and saline to break up the congestion, and now we'll be adding Vick's rub to the routine.

Chad and I can't say enough good things about Dr. Fullmer!  He's a great doctor and we're so glad he's Tyke's pediatrician!
The rest of the day went well for our little Tyke but tonight the congestion is settling in again and he is one grumpy gus!  Looks like it will be a long night for the both of us...  I can't wait for our little guy to be 100% healthy again.
