Easter 2013

We really debated on whether or not we would go Easter camping this year.  Luckily the weather report looked like it was going to be a perfect weekend so we packed our gear and went!  We camped with the Kay/Sutherland clan and had the best time!  I think it's safe to say Tyke enjoyed his first Easter in the great outdoors.

We got a late start Friday thanks to pictures (I had scheduled them as late in the month as I could so I could get the bunny pics and be somewhat close to his 3 month).  It was nearly 6 p.m. before we left the house.  We stopped at Wendy's to grab dinner and headed west.  Camp this year was on the southwest end of Dog Valley.  We had a perfect spot tucked back in away from the neighbors.  There were rocks for the kids to climb and plenty of land for four wheeling, golfing and shooting shotguns.

On Saturday morning I was SO excited to give Tyke his first camping bath in the kitchen sink.  I don't know why it was such a big deal for me to do this, but it was.  I had been looking forward to this moment since we started talking about camping back in January!  Tyke wasn't so sure about this bath, and once we got scrubbing him down I wasn't so sure about it either.  It would have been a lot easier to bathe him in the tub that's for sure.
 He thinks I'm a crazy momma! =)
After a quick bath we bundled our little guy up (which he HATED!) and headed outside to play.  Chad cooked breakfast while Tyke and I headed to the campfire to hang out with the gang.  For breakfast we had our favorite: mountain man breakfast (hash browns, eggs, cheese, onions, sausage and bacon cooked together...so healthy and so good!).  After we got things cleaned up we sat around the fire with the others until about noon.
We had a big Easter egg hunt/lunch to get to at one o'clock on the other side of the hill with the Bowles clan!  There was so much food and we were stuffed from our breakfast but it didn't stop us from munching on subway sandwiches, veggies and chips anyway.

This years egg hunt went a little differently and the adults got to go first before the kids (sounds fair right?)  The kids weren't too impressed but they had fun helping us old blind people find our eggs.  Our eggs were mostly filled with papers to redeem for cash! $175 worth to be exact.  Between Chad and I we made $6 of that $175, yeah, we're that good!  We also ended up with socks, junk food galore, and a $10 gift card to Cabela's.

The next round of hunting was for the youngest group of kids, which included Tyke.  Tyke slept through the entire thing.  We picked him up some good loot though.  A lot of candy and crackers which are useless to him this year, and he got himself a gold dollar to add to his savings.  I'm sure he would have been so excited if he had been awake for it. =)

While we were hunting eggs a cold little breeze picked up and soon we were getting rained on.  Brooke and the other kids in the next group up were pretty upset that they weren't going to get to do their egg hunt because of it, but the storm quickly passed and the kids scored with lots of prizes and money as well.  All in all, I think it's safe to say everyone walked away richer from this years egg hunt. Grandma Jean and Grandpa Clarence have definitely started a fun tradition that will go on for years and years!

After the big hunt was over and we had gotten all of our visiting in we decided it was time to head back to camp.  Tyke was sleepy again and so were we.  We got back to camp and got things ready for dinner and then just lounged for a while.  For dinner that night Chad grilled up some sliced pork with green chilies and we had "fajitas" with my homemade salsa.  It was so yummy!

We got Tyke bundled up good and spent the rest of the evening around the camp fire with the rest of the gang.  Tyke was totally mesmerized with the flames.  It was a good babysitter.  He fell asleep probably around 9 p.m. for the night.  He was such a good baby out camping!
We woke up Easter morning to find that the Easter Bunny had visited Tyke!  He got spoiled with new clothes, socks, binkies, bath toys and a truck!  I think we were more excited about it all than he was =)

We had a huge breakfast where everyone contributed food and drink.  It's something that the Kay/Sutherland clan do every camping trip and we love it!

Before loading up camp and heading home Chad took this panoramic view of camp.  We had such a great time camping with our family!  We can't wait to get together again with them all.  And I just know that Tyke can't wait for his next camping adventure!
