I had it all pictured in my head how great this time would be (Tyke cried the entire time during his one year photo shoot see here)... Luke would be a smiley little ball of energy and would dig right in to his smash cake and make the biggest mess ever! Boy was I wrong! I don't know what went wrong or what his problem was but it was a disaster! Even so, we ended up with some cute pictures of our boy. Luke was fine until it was time to go back to our room. He started getting clingy and panicked a little. Tyke followed along, unsure of what was going on. While our photographer was getting things set up I sat both boys on a cute couch prop they had. At that point Luke really got nervous, Tyke still was unsure and I was clueless about what was to come. Our photographer started snapping pictures and Luke started getting uncomfortable. Tyke just looked on confused. We told him to give Luke a hug and he nicely put his arm around Luke's shoulders and kissed him on the side of the head. The most adorable thing we have ever seen! Luke started crying so we took him to try and calm him down and had our photographer go ahead and snap a few pictures of Tyke for his 2 1/2 year pics. Tyke cooperated well while Luke had a little break down. We tried everything we could think of but he wanted nothing to do with pictures or Tyke or me. He just wanted his Daddy to hold him and save him from this torture. We put him down to start shooting, giving him balloons and blowing bubbles, but nothing calmed him down. Our photographer went ahead and snapped away, we had no other choice.
Luke cried and cried and cried some more. He cried harder than Chad and I have ever seen him cry. We got out some treats and that calmed him down for about 1.2 seconds before he REALLY threw a fit! It put me in a bad mood and I was on the verge of tears. Nothing was working out like I had pictured at all. I started getting a little bit snappy with our photographer and felt really bad about it. She kept taking his pictures with the same backdrop and I finally had to get a little mean to get her to take us to different areas of the building. Luke was screaming his head off and Tyke was punching balloons. What a fun night, right?!
I really, really, really thought that once we gave Luke his cake he would calm right down and dig in and be a happy camper. Instead he freaked out! I stuck his hands into the cake and then into his mouth to get him started. He shook with anger at that! We snapped a few pictures of this and then Daddy saved the day and told us all that we were done torturing the poor kid. He grabbed Luke and I went to grab the rest of our things. Tyke ran and punched the balloons so hard that they came untied and floated up into the ceiling beams where they got tangled and stuck. Chad was the only who could reach and them and tried tugging at them a few times before one popped and we gave up. Sigh. We got Luke cleaned up and he and Tyke and Daddy headed out to the car while I gathered our things and then I met up with them. Luke was still having a hard time catching his breath and would cry a sad little cry at the most random things. Poor kid was scarred.
We had about an hour to kill before going back to Camera Shy for our photos, that I was just sure there would be none worth talking about. I was so upset I told Chad to bag the Texas Roadhouse idea. We drove around for about twenty minutes before deciding to hit the Culver's drive-thru and grab the boys a grilled cheese sand which and us some burgers. Once Luke got a hold of his sandwich he scarfed it right down. The poor boy was starving and looking back now, I'm thinking that may have played a big role in his melt down at Camera Shy.
We went back for our pictures and looking through the slide show preview of our boys I was amazed that there were so many GOOD ones! Luke may not have shed a single smile, and cried a whole lot of tears, but she captured our sweet Louie-pooey perfectly! One day, I'll be giving him grief for this! Happy 1st Birthday little Lu! We love you and your stubborn, grumpy, goofy, sweet little self so very much!
Here is Luke's little collage of facts about him. He's a fun little man and I could have written down so much more if time and space would have permitted. We love our Louie-pooey!
