We move the boys into their own room, finally. Tyke, for the last year or so has pretty much slept with us in our bed. We tried to get him to sleep in his own room but he wouldn't. If we got him to sleep in his bed he would just end up in bed with us by 2 a.m. anyway so we kind of gave up. Luke has been a terrible little sleeper. He has probably only slept through the night 4-5 times, ever! He usually wakes up three times a night: 12:10 a.m., 3:30 a.m., and 5:00 a.m. It's exhausting. I'm tired! Between waking up to feed Luke and having Tyke's feet in my face, or worse, getting karate chopped in the throat, I feel like we haven't slept in months. Luke was starting to get too big for his "bed" in our room and so we knew it was time to kick both boys out! (He was still sleeping in the play pen)
We were able to purchase a twin size mattress and box for Tyke on Monday. Tuesday Chad stopped at Walmart on his way home from work and bought a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sheet set (they are Tyke's latest obsession). Tyke was so excited about the sheets but not the bed. When we put the crib back together (it had been assembled into the day bed position) we decided that the mattress would be perfect on the second level down. Wrong! Luke immediately pulled himself up into standing position and started gnawing on the rail. We've left it for now and will lower it in a week or so.
They're first night in their own room was okay. Chad had to lay with Tyke until he fell asleep. Even then he still came and climbed in bed with us, I'm not sure when. Luke slept until 3:00 a.m.! I got him a bottle and he went right back to sleep until around 5:00 a.m. I crawled back into bed and noticed Tyke sprawled out so I gathered him and his blanket up and moved him back to his bed. He wasn't too happy about that the next morning!
Wednesday night was about the same. Tyke woke up around midnight and climbed into bed with us. I was ready to take him back but Chad insisted we let him stay until he fell asleep. By the time he did so had we and so he slept with us until around 3:30 a.m. when Luke woke up for his bottle and then I moved him to his bed. Again, he wasn't happy to wake up in his own room.
Last night Luke went right to sleep and slept until 3:00 a.m. again. Tyke on the other hand had a restless night full of tears. Chad and I had to take turns lying down with him. He would fall asleep and we'd leave and within ten minutes he would come running to us crying. He had to have been so tired because he had missed his nap time during the day but he was a die hard to get to sleep. Once he finally fell asleep (around midnight) he slept the entire night in his bed, yay! Luke only got up once, yay! And both boys woke up around 7:30 a.m. happy and giggly, yay! Here's to hoping we'll have more successful nights: that Luke will sleep through the night finally and that Tyke will stay in his own bed! We love you boys!!
