We had a great Memorial Weekend! We had originally planned on camping at Mayfield but as our camping group got smaller and smaller we opted to just go up the canyon instead. A few nights before our little family pulled our trailer up to save a spot and we're glad we did. The canyon was packed and we were lucky to grab the last decent spot to camp.
On Friday after work we grabbed a few last minute things and headed for our destination. Darian got to ride up with us which I'm sure she was thrilled about. Tyke was loving the cool air and mounds of dirt to play in. Within minutes, as usual, he was covered from head to toe in black dirt. The boy was happy! He was so excited about the dirt in fact that he grabbed a handful and threw it in Darian's lap, all over her cute school clothes. Little stinker! After getting camp officially situated we sat around waited for the rest of our crew to show up, Aunt Jenny and Uncle Cody.
Saturday was spent being lazy, playing by the creek, and going for a couple of rides to gather fire wood. Tyke loved every minute of it was of course covered from head to toe in dirt within minutes of getting outside. Aunt Jenny and I took him down by the creek and let him throw rocks into it. He thought that was pretty awesome and was not happy with us when we took him back to camp. Little bugger kept getting more and more brave with how close he was getting to the water. I swear that boy has no fear! Nana and her friend Ted showed up around noon and we got busy making sandwiches for lunch. Tyke was a pill about eating anything Chad or I made but he was more than happy to munch with Darian, Teagen and Quade. Aunt Jenny was always serving them mac and cheese, quesadillas and grilled cheese sandwiches so Tyke ate like a champ with them! That night after dinner we got out the s'mores stuff and made some yummy treats. Aunt Jenny gave Tyke his very own s'more and he loved it! He wasn't too fond of the gooey marshmallows getting all over his fingers, and at one point stuck the entire s'more in his mouth and let go so he could clean his hands just to find out that he was glued with marshmallow on both of them. As he pulled his little hands away the marshmallow just stretched with them and he was unable to let go. He looked at Jenny and I pretty panicked and all we could do was laugh before finally helping him. We failed to get a picture of his s'more cuteness. After that incident he was no longer interested in s'mores for the night.
Sunday our little family loaded up and road on up the canyon to see if the loop road was open completely or not. It wasn't. The gate at Devils Kitchen was still closed so we turned around and took our time getting back to camp. We stopped along the way to cut up some fallen trees for fire wood that night. By the time we got back to camp we were exhausted and took a good long nap. Tyke, no matter how tired he was, had the hardest time being taken away from the dirt pile his Daddy had built him. He was a little die hard to get to sleep but he needed his naps so bad! He just played so hard everyday out in the hot sun that he would turn grumpy and irritable, we had to force him inside to nap. Sunday night Chris and Danielle and kids showed up for a visit. We visited for a while and then got busy cooking dinner. Everyone kind of did their own thing but we all ended up trying each others yummy foods. As soon as Chad and I had sat down to eat our food Waylon started screaming and crying like it was the end of the world. He had gotten dirt thrown in his eyes! When we asked who did it all of the kids pointed at Tyke and poor Tyke just looked at us innocently. He got in trouble, he has a bad habit of throwing dirt! Poor Waylon's eyes were completely covered in dirt/mud from his tears and rubbing them so hard. We spent nearly an hour trying to get his poor eyes cleaned out and even then there was still quite a bit. Eventually things calmed down and we got out the s'mores stuff.
Monday morning was fairly calm. We ate breakfast and then worked on getting things packed up so we could head home. Tyke stayed entertained playing in the dirt, I cleaned and organized the inside of the trailer, and Chad got all of the outside stuff put up. We were home by noon, and that was with taking our time! We got everything cleaned up and put away, laundry started, lunch done and over with, and then we loaded up our fishing poles and headed back up the canyon to one of the ponds. The fishing was unsuccessful but Tyke had a blast throwing rocks in the pond, and eventually climbing on in and splashing in the mud. It made for one stressed out momma and Chad sensed that so we loaded up and headed home, exhausted, wet and splashed with mud! When we got back to town, before heading straight home, we went to Reed's and got ourselves an ice cream. It was a perfect end to a perfect weekend!
