Ouch!

Our poor little guy has been a bit of a grump the last couple of days and I can totally understand why, now.  On Saturday, the tip of Tyke's tongue started growing a small canker sore.  By night time it was huge!  Tyke's cheeks were super red, he was drooling buckets of slobber, and he ran a mild fever right around 100 degrees Saturday night.  He didn't eat very well over the weekend, only bottles, and even then he didn't eat as many ounces as he usually does.  I blamed it all on the canker sore.  Sunday his mouth was looking a little worse.  There were more sores forming but the one on the tip of his tongue was gross looking!  I asked my sisters if they had any advice for us to try and get that thing healed faster.  Aunt Jenny offered to try some of her oils so we headed out around 3 p.m. to give them a try.  We put melaleuca on his sore.  It was a fight but he was happy as soon as we let him go.  Jenny gave him two doses while we were there and then let us take the oil home with us.  Tyke still refused to eat that night so I fixed him a bottle.  As soon as he was done, dumb me decided to try one more dose of oils.  Chad held him down while I put the oil on his canker.  He was not very happy with us!  As soon as we were done Chad picked him up to comfort him and Tyke puked all over the both of them!  It was awful!

This morning his tongue still wasn't looking good so we decided to take him to the doctors office.  We were worried it was an infection and not just a random sore at this point.  Tyke had the big sore and then three little ones starting around it.  We were lucky and got in to see the doctor around 10:40 a.m.  Dr Fullmer checked Tyke over and said that his throat was a little red but nothing to be concerned about.  He then tried to get a good look at Tyke's tongue.  Talk about a struggle!  Tyke HATES going to the doctors and scrame the entire time.  He gagged while Dr. Fullmer stuck the Popsicle stick in his mouth the check things out.  We thought for sure he was going to throw up but he never did.  Dr. Fullmer told us he wasn't sure what it was but he did rule out thrush, hoof and mouth disease and the oral herpes virus.  We were relieved to hear that!  He took a picture of Tyke's mouth so that he could do some research on it.  He told us that most likely it was just an injury and that it should be cleared up by Friday.  He also told us to leave it alone, no more oils.  He didn't seem too impressed when we had told we had tried that, oops!  Dr. Fullmer told us to watch for more spots and that if any appeared on Tyke's cheeks or the roof of his mouth that we should bring him back in.

Tonight as Tyke layed on the floor throwing a tantrum I noticed another white spot in his mouth, on the top.  I panicked a little and thought, oh great!  I pinned Tyke down so that I could open is mouth and get a good look.  I was surprised to see that his new white spot was in fact a new tooth!  His upper left second molar!  I was not expecting that at all!  I knew he had to be teething somewhere but never could figure out where, now I know why, I wasn't looking back far enough!  It's no wonder Tyke has been so miserable the last few days!  On top of a sore tongue he had a huge tooth pop through!  His second molars are supposed to come in between 25-33 months, so this one is just a little early.  Our little guy now has SEVEN teeth!
