2 Week Check Up

Our little Tyke man had his 2 week check up today!  I can't believe it's been 2 whole weeks already since he came into our lives!  I was really nervous for today's doctors appointment because along with being poked for his 2nd PKU test we had him circumcised.  I was so nervous about how things would go and seeing our baby in pain again (after Sunday's fun).  I called my sister Stephanie to have her assure me that everything would be fine.  I'm such a nervous mommy, even though I thought this would be cake after helping out with so many nieces and nephews.  My own baby is a whole different story.  It's unexplainable how much we love and adore this little boy!

Anyway, Tyke did really well at his check up.  He's grown so much in 2 short weeks.  He weighed in at 7 pounds 10 ounces (22nd percentile, he was 6 lbs 9 oz at birth and 6 lbs 5 oz when we left the hospital) measured 21.1 inches long (77th percentile, he was 20 inches at birth) and his head measured 13.25 inches (4th percentile).

Tyke threw the biggest fit when the nurse poked his poor little foot for blood for the PKU.  I can't blame him, his poor heels have been poked so many times because of the jaundice tests, etc.  He cried and cried and cried and it took a few minutes to calm the poor guy down.  I kept thinking to myself that if he was like that for a poke in the heel then he was really going to freak out at what was coming next. =(

Dr. Fullmer came in and checked our little Tyke over.  He's perfect in every way! (we already knew that =))  His hematoma's are still large but Dr. Fullmer told us that they should really start to go down in the next month or so (we sure hope so!).  Dr. Fullmer noted Tyke's weight gain in just 3 days: 8 ounces!  He said that was a lot for only 3 days but he wouldn't be too concerned about it at this time (in Tyke's defense, he had just eaten a few ounces while we were waiting in the waiting room, and he had a full diaper).  After checking him over Dr. Fullmer was ready to take Tyke into the other room and do his circumcision.  He asked if we wanted to go with.  There was no way I was going, as much as I wanted to be there for my baby I knew I wouldn't be able to handle.  I had a come apart watching him have his blood drawn a few days before, I knew I wouldn't be able to do this.  Chad didn't really want to go either but was a good daddy and went with to be with our boy.

I sat in the room by myself praying for my baby to do good, be tough, and for things to go well and him not be in pain.  I was seriously a nervous wreck!  I kept waiting to here our Tyke man cry, the room they took him in was just across the hall, but luckily I never heard anything.  I figured the room was sound proof or something.  After what seemed like forever Dr. Fullmer came into the room and told me they were done, Tyke had done great, and surprisingly never once cried.  He was impressed by that.  He took me into the other room to be with Chad and Tyke and explained what care we needed to do for our little guy.  Tyke was totally content with the nurse rocking him and giving him his binky.  Of course his binky had been dipped in sugar water (and it had been dipped in sugar water during the whole process) and we all know what a sugar baby he is!  We're so grateful that our boy is healthy and growing well!  And I'm sure Tyke is grateful that he doesn't have to go back to the doctor until his 2 month check up.  Yay for no more pokes anytime soon! =)
