Boise Getaway

Grandma Cheryl, Aunt Steph, Aunt Tiffy, Aunt Jo and us decided we needed a little "girls" weekend because it had been too long since the cousins and all of us had gotten together.  Boise is the halfway point between us and Aunt Jo so we planned a little weekend getaway to shop, play, eat and have fun.  Boy did we ever have fun!

We all left early Friday morning and met up in Boise at the Black Bear Diner within minutes of each other.  It was great timing and to be honest, the road trip really wasn't too bad.  We got seated in a private room (the manager must have noticed we were a rowdy bunch) and we all had a good time visiting and catching up.  The kids LOVED being together once again!  After lunch we went and found our hotel, the Hyatt, and got settled in before going out to do some shopping!  We got lucky and ended up with adjoining rooms which was so much fun for all of us!  We shopped for a while before deciding we were all exhausted from our long day.  We headed back to the rooms and ordered pizza and had ourselves a little pizza party for dinner.  After dinner we got ready to go swimming.  Tyke did not want to go at all so I figured we wouldn't swim.  I got Luke ready for bed and then Tyke, seeing Bowdee in his swim shorts, begged to go swimming.  So, we went.  He was super excited until we got to the water and then he freaked out.  The pool was COLD!  I managed to get him in the water but the entire time we were in he couldn't/wouldn't relax and had a death grip around my neck.  He was happiest sitting on the edge of the pool splashing the water with his feet.  After swimming and getting cleaned up we stayed up late playing and visiting.  The kids finally crashed around 11 p.m. and the rest of us called it quits around 1 a.m.

Saturday we had big plans to go to the Boise Zoo!  The kids were so excited and so were us adults.  We had a quick breakfast down at the hotels continental breakfast.  Luke enjoyed about three sausage links before throwing his food at me and calling it quits.  Tyke enjoyed pancakes, sausage links and yogurt.  After breakfast we headed to the zoo.  The weather was perfect for a zoo day.  The boys (Tyke, Luke & Bowdee, aka my crew) had fun chasing squirrels and having sword fights with sticks while we waited for the girls to show up.  Funny story, on our way into the zoo there was a squirrel perched on a picnic table posing for some foreign tourists.  Well that didn't last long because Tyke and Bowdee ran up behind them growling and scared the poor squirrel away.  Oh my did those boys ever have fun together!

The zoo was so much fun!  We ended up staying for about three hours and it was perfect timing.  There weren't too many people yet and the weather wasn't too hot, yet.  The kids had a blast riding in the rented wagons.  Tyke was super excited to go and see the giraffes.  Luke LOVED the meerkats and thought they were so funny.  I think they thought he was pretty cool too because they played with each other at the glass partition.  I loved every bit of the zoo and watching my boys enjoy the animals.  They were so excited and amazed at everything and it was just a really good time for all of us!  The Boise Zoo has probably got to be one of my favorites (granted I haven't been to many but I sure enjoyed this one!)  Great Grandpa Wally and Great Grandma Gaye had given each of the kids $20 to spend on their weekend trip (THANKS Grams and Gramps!!) and we decided we'd spend our money at the zoo and buy a souvenir.  The kids all had fun picking out their own prizes and paying for them with their own money.  Tyke immediately set his eyes on a stuffed giraffe and had to have it.  We picked a stuffed meerkat for Luke, since that had been his favorite animal in the zoo, or so it seemed.  When we went to check out we found out that Tyke could get a larger stuffed giraffe for the same price as the one he had in his arms.  Of course he opted for the bigger one, the "daddy" giraffe.

After purchasing our souvenirs we gathered all of the kids up with their new toys and took a group photo to send to Grams and Gramps along with a thank you.  We loaded up and left soon after that.  It was getting hot and we were starving.  Some of us had made ourselves a little sick by not eating or drinking enough while walking around the zoo all morning.  We had lunch at the Olive Garden and Luke slept through the entire thing.  He was one exhausted boy!  After lunch we walked to the mall and spent a good amount of time there shopping.  Luke woke up hungry so he and I and Tyke went and found the food court and got him a cheeseburger and fries.  He ate the cheeseburger pretty well but he did better with it once we ditched the bun.  The boy is a meat eater!  We shopped and shopped and shopped until we were all exhausted.  We hit a few places other than the mall before heading back to the rooms.  None of us were very hungry once dinner time rolled around because of our big, late lunch.  A few of us left to go and grab some fries and chicken strips and milk shakes to munch on.  Heather Jo did some hair while we waited.  I got my hair colored and both boys got their hair cut.  Tyke wasn't too impressed having to stand in the bath tub in his pull-up to have his hair buzzed.  We didn't stay up too late Saturday night because we were all super tired from our big, long day.

Sunday morning we woke up to a huge thud, Luke had fallen off of the bed and boy did it ever upset him!  I had a hard time getting him calmed down so that he wouldn't wake up the rest of our crew (or the second floor for that matter, the kid has got a set of lungs!).  He had been sleeping between me and Tyke and somehow managed to wiggle himself to the end of the bed and right off.  It was a pretty tall bed too.  He had a hard time calming down and once I got him calmed down he would freak out if I tried to lay him down.  It was about 6 a.m. when this happened and he and I never went back to sleep, darn it.  When everyone else finally got up we got our bags packed and the rooms cleaned and then headed down for breakfast.  Luke didn't eat well at all and pretty much threw all of his food at me and laughed.  Tyke must have been starving because he ate and ate and ate pancakes and sausage and yogurt, yum!  After breakfast we went and got our bags and checked out of the hotel and went back to the mall.  We shopped for a few hours and then went to Sizzler for lunch.  Luke once again refused to eat anything but Tyke was a little piggy.  After lunch we parted ways and called it a weekend and headed home.  Luke fell asleep almost instantly.  Tyke and Bowdee had a blast sitting in the back seat playing with their new toys.  I was amused listening to their little imaginations as they played.  We missed Daddy tons and the boys and I were so happy to get home in time to see him before he had to go to work.  We had such a good weekend and we can't wait to do it again!
